In the early hours of December 8th, Monday, a fire erupted aboard the containership ‘M/V Stride,’ resulting in a tragic loss of the lives of two crew members and injuring a third. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Panama-flagged container vessel was docked at the Barbours Cut Container Terminal within PORT HOUSTON when the fire broke out. The Port Houston Fire Department responded to the situation.

Regrettably, two crew members succumbed to the fire, while a third was injured and swiftly transported to the hospital via a medical transport helicopter.

As of the latest report, the fire has been extinguished, and there is no immediate threat to the surrounding community. Nevertheless, the Port Houston Fire Department continues to monitor the ship for the next 24 hours to ensure ongoing safety measures.

An investigation into the incident is underway, led by the Harris County Fire Marshal and Medical Examiners. Additionally, the US Coast Guard and the National Transportation Safety Board are conducting their inquiries into this unfortunate incident.
