Sanmar delivered the Bozçay Class Compact Harbor Tug to the Seychelles Port Authority.

Sanmar, one of the pioneers of the tugboat industry, delivered the compact harbor tug named MAMELLES to Port Victoria, Seychelles, one of the most important industrial fishing, cruise ship and super yacht port destinations in the southwestern Indian Ocean. Based on Canadian Robert Allan Ltd’s Sanmar-exclusive RApport 1900SX design, MAMELLES is a diesel-powered tugboat designed to increase the efficiency of ship handling tasks on offshore vessels.

MAMELLES, which will operate in the port visited by approximately 800 ships a year, has a length of 8 meters and a cruising speed of 11.5 knots. In addition, the tugboat, which provides 33 tons of traction power and fast maneuverability, has a traditional twin-screw propulsion system with four rudders.

Ideal for small and sometimes crowded harbor conditions, the tug is powered by twin EPA Tier III and IMO Tier II compliant high-speed electronically controlled Caterpillar C32 engines, each reaching 970 kW at 1,800 rpm. Bozçay’s hull form was developed based on a wide range of previously successful tug designs to provide good seakeeping, maneuverability and stability in all types of operations.

The increased length of the design provides better stability and provides a wide viewing angle from the wheelhouse. The tank capacity consists of 26,000 liters of fuel oil and 3,100 liters of fresh water.

Sanmar Shipyards Commercial Director Rüçhan Çıvgın said: “MAMELLES is an example of the wide range of tugs that Sanmar can offer to meet specific operator needs. In this case, the Seychelles Port Authority was looking for a compact tug that was both maneuverable and extremely stable. “Our modern Bozçay Class tugs are the result of innovative ideas implemented and lessons learned from decades of experience coming together to overcome the many challenges facing modern port operations.”

MAMELLES is the second Sanmar-made tugboat delivered to the Seychelles Port Authority, the first was delivered in 2020.
