search efforts for the crew of the sinking ship continue

The search for the missing 11-person crew of the dry cargo ship that sank off the coast of Zonguldak continues on the 4th day by land, sea and air.

A land-based search was carried out throughout the night for the missing 11 personnel on the Turkish-flagged ship “Kafkametler”, which sank after hitting the breakwater due to a storm in the Black Sea Ereğli district on November 19.

As the day dawned, search efforts began again by sea and air.

Work is being carried out by land, sea and air in the region with the participation of AFAD, the General Directorate of Coastal Safety and other teams to find the missing personnel.

The Turkish-flagged dry cargo ship named “Kafkametler”, carrying cargo from Russia to Izmir Aliaga Port, hit the breakwater in the military zone while leaving Ereğli Port due to the storm in the Black Sea region on November 19 and sank. The lifeless body of one of the 12-person Turkish crew on the ship was found on November 20.

On the other hand, the teams took precautions by establishing a barrier to prevent the fuel of the Cameroon-flagged cargo ship, which was split into two and ran aground due to the storm, from spreading into the sea.

The dry cargo ship was split in two during the storm that hit the region on November 19, and the part of the ship that was dragged to the shore hit the concrete walls of the port and damaged the amphitheater on the shore. The 13 foreign national personnel on the ship were evacuated by the teams and placed in Ereğli Teachers’ Center.
