It was stated that the Iranian-backed Houthis in Yemen seized the ship owned by an Israeli company in the Red Sea.

The ship named Galaxy Leader, which departed from the Gulf in Turkey and was carrying cars to India, was hijacked in the Red Sea.

Yemen Army Spokesperson Yahya Saree stated that it was learned that the ship was kidnapped by the “Iran-backed” rebel movement Houthis on the grounds that it belonged to Israel.

The ship last signaled in the Suez Canal 32 hours ago.

In international media reports, it was reported that there were 22 crew members on the ship named “Galaxy Leader”, which was seized by the Houthis in the Red Sea.

In their statement yesterday morning, the Houthis in Yemen threatened to target ships belonging to Israeli companies.

The 48,710 GT, 189-metre-long and 32-metre-wide ship, sailed by Danny Ungar, is owned by Ray Car Carriers, a subsidiary of London-based Unity Maritime, and operated by Japan’s NYK Group.

The company has a fleet of 65 vehicles carrying vehicles, as well as two 2020-built VLCCs. The company currently has orders to build eight LNG-fueled car carriers.
