Statement from AGS regarding the allegations

Statement from AGS regarding the allegations - News2Sea

A statement came from the company that will transform the Raymond Croze cable laying ship.

The asbestos debate started after the cable laying ship named Raymond Croze, owned by French Telecommunications, was sold to Aliağa for recycling.

Anadolu Ship Dismantling Facility (AGS), which made a statement regarding the allegations that there were 100 tons of asbestos on the ship that is harmful to human health, described the claim as irrational.

The statement made by Anadolu Ship Breaking Facility (AGS) Human Resources and Corporate Communications Coordinator Mine Aydın is as follows:

Disposal process first

“The facility will have the asbestos in question removed by third-party accredited, approved and competent companies in an environmentally friendly manner and in accordance with the regulations, as in standard processes, and the ship dismantling process will not begin until this disposal process is completed.”

Compliant with EU Directive

“It was decided to recycle the ship in a European Union-approved facility that can provide the most competent and suitable conditions for dismantling the ship and complies with the European Union Ship Recycling Regulation. This process, which is carried out with the approvals of the relevant public institutions and ministries, is a standard process. It is unreasonable that there were 100 tons of asbestos on the Raymond Croze ship, which weighs 3,597 tons, as claimed. “This process is compatible with the standard operation of our facility and every stage is carefully managed.”
