Three new tugboats built by Med Marine for Danish Svitzer will operate at Gastrade’s LNG terminal in Greece.

Three new tugboats, built by Med Marine for Denmark’s Svitzer and delivered all at the same time in a record success, will serve Gastrade’s FSRU-based LNG import terminal in Alexandroupoli, Greece. The names of the three RAstar 2800 tugboats, all designed by Canadian Robert Allan, were determined as Svitzer Elmina, Svitzer Evros and Svitzer Kikonas.

In the statement made by Svitzer, it was said: “We expect all three tugboats to be in Dedeağaç next week.”

Earlier this year, Svitzer signed a contract with Gastrade to provide tug services for the LNG import project in Alexandroupoli. Under the 15-year service agreement, Svitzer will provide tug services and support for advanced LNG operations at the new import terminal. The tugboats, staffed entirely by Greek crews, will assist the FSRU and LNG delivery carriers.
