The General Directorate of Maritime Affairs of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure announced the container and cargo statistics for November.

The amount of containers handled in Turkish ports increased by 0.4 percent in November compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 970 thousand 871 TEU, and the amount of cargo decreased by 11 percent, reaching 38 million 216 thousand 846 tons.

In the January-November period of this year, the amount of containers handled at the ports increased by 1.2 percent compared to the same period last year and was recorded as 11 million 458 thousand 351 TEU.

The amount of containers for foreign trade handled at ports in November decreased by 0.3 percent compared to the same month last year, reaching 759 thousand 637 TEU. While container loadings for export purposes increased by 4.9 percent compared to the same month last year, reaching 389 thousand 273 TEU, container unloading for import purposes decreased by 5.3 percent and decreased to 370 thousand 364 TEU.

The amount of transit containers increased by 5.9 percent in this period, reaching 153 thousand 787 TEU.

The highest number of container handling operations took place within the administrative borders of Ambarlı Port Authority. 232 thousand 805 TEU containers were handled in the port facilities operating within the administrative borders of Ambarlı Port Authority. This was followed by Kocaeli and Mersin port authorities.

The largest export container shipment by sea was containers going to Egypt with 41 thousand 800 TEU. The most container unloading was in containers coming from Greece.

Load amount decreased

The amount of cargo handled at ports in November decreased by 11 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 38 million 216 thousand 846 tons.

The amount of cargo handled in the January-November period decreased by 4.7 percent and was recorded as 474 million 291 thousand 189 tons.

In November, the loading amount for export purposes at the ports increased by 8 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 11 million 373 thousand 109 tons, and the unloading amount for import purposes decreased by 14.8 percent, reaching 17 million 634 thousand 731 tons.

Foreign trade transportation also decreased by 7.1 percent in the same period, falling to 29 million 7 thousand 840 tons. Transit cargo transportation decreased by 33.4 percent to 4 million 499 thousand 80 tons, and the amount of cargo transported in cabotage decreased by 4.7 percent to 4 million 709 thousand 926 tons.

The most hard coal was handled in ports

A total of 6 million 242 thousand 151 tons of cargo was handled in the port facilities operating within the administrative borders of Aliağa Port Authority. This was followed by Kocaeli and Iskenderun port authorities.

The highest increase in terms of handling amount was in hard coal (unbriquetted) cargo in November. In November, 2 million 100 thousand 497 tons of hard coal were handled in ports. This was followed by corn and LNG by cargo type.

The most exported cargo type by sea was portland cement.

The highest cargo handling in seaborne exports was carried out to Italy with 1 million 264 thousand 9 tons. This country was followed by shipments to Egypt and America.

The highest load in imports was handled in transportation from Russia with 7 million 48 thousand 690 tons.
