Cruise ship MEIN SCHIFF 7
The first large cruise ship designed to operate on methanol or e-methanol, the “MEIN SCHIFF 7”, was floated out from construction in dry dock. Commissioned for TUI Cruises, headquartered in Hamburg, the vessel will undergo final outfitting before its debut in the summer of 2024.
This vessel, the third in its series, is a product of the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland and has been built for Germany’s TUI Cruises. The vessel will initially use lower-emission marine diesel fuel and will later transition to methanol once the fuel becomes readily accessible.
The construction of MEIN SCHIFF 7 commenced in June 2022 with a ceremonial steel cutting, followed by the placement of its first block in dry dock in March 2023.
The ship measures 315.7 meters in length and weighs 111,500 gross tons. It offers accommodations for 2,894 passengers in double occupancy across 1,461 cabins and can accommodate a crew of 1,000. The cruise ship is registered in Malta.
In addition to being methanol-ready, the ship also integrates catalytic converters that reduce NOx emissions by approximately 75%. Furthermore, it features shore power capabilities and advanced waste and wastewater treatment systems.
The ship is scheduled to commence voyages from Germany to the North Cape and Iceland in July 2024 and embark on Baltic cruises from September 2024 onwards.
