The General Directorate of Maritime Affairs of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure reported that the body of a sailor on the Kafkametler ship, which hit the breakwater and sank after leaving the port in Zonguldak’s Karadeniz Ereğli district, was found.

In the post made by the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs on the X social media platform, the following information was given:

“The body of one of our sailors on the Kafkametler ship, which ran aground and communication was lost, was found by the rescue teams on the Ereğli coast. Search and rescue efforts for the other sailors on the sinking ship continue. We wish God’s mercy to our sailor. Our condolences.”

Minister of Internal Affairs Ali Yerlikaya also gave information about the ship accident that occurred yesterday in his statement in the morning.

Yerlikaya said, “The Turkish flagged dry cargo ship ‘Kafkametler’, which left the port to go to Izmir due to adverse weather and sea conditions, sank by drifting and hitting the breakwater. Contact has still not been established with the 12 Turkish crew on the ship. Coast Guard Command, Naval Forces, AFAD “The Coastal Police, gendarmerie, police and fire brigade are on standby. Search and rescue activities will begin immediately when the adverse weather conditions improve.” He used the following expressions:

A search and rescue operation is being carried out for the crew of the ship that hit the breakwater and sank in Zonguldak’s Karadeniz Ereğli district.

As the storm and showers affecting the city abated, a search and rescue operation was launched by air, sea and land to find the 12-person Turkish crew of the dry cargo ship “Kafkametler”, which sank yesterday morning.

Coast Guard, Coastal Police, AFAD teams, divers, gendarmerie and police teams participate in the activities and are accompanied by 1 helicopter, 1 plane and 2 boats.

The efforts to find the lifeless body of one sailor so far are continuing in many ways.

On the other hand, the evacuation of 13 personnel of the Cameroon Flag ship, which broke into two and washed ashore in the same port yesterday morning due to the storm, was recorded by security cameras.

Meanwhile, municipal teams are carrying out cleaning work in the district center and on the beach, which were affected by the storm and showers. Citizens whose workplaces were damaged also carry out water evacuation and cleaning operations in their shops with their own means.
