The Maltese-flagged Rojen, loaded with approximately 13 thousand tons of corn, departed from Ukraine and arrived at the Italian port of Ravenna.
Following the grain corridor agreement signed between Turkey, Russia, Ukraine and the United Nations (UN) in Istanbul on July 22, the first ships loaded with grain from Ukraine started to arrive at their destination ports.
Departing from Ukraine’s Cornomorsk Port on 5 August, the Maltese-flagged ship arrived at Ravenna Port on the Adriatic Sea coast of Italy, late at night due to the adverse weather conditions.
After the ship docked at the port, the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) teams of the Italian Customs Agency took some samples of the corn in the cargo hold to see if there was any chemical threat or radiation in the corn brought by the ship. It was learned that after the test results to be made on the samples, the cargo on the ship will be unloaded.
It was recorded that there were approximately 13 thousand tons of corn on board, mostly to be used as animal feed.
According to Italian media reports, the unloading of the ship will continue until 16 August. Meanwhile, the ship in question became the first ship to reach Italy after the grain corridor agreement.
More ships are expected to arrive in Italy in the coming days, carrying soybeans and crude sunflower oil from Ukraine.
