Three men were arrested at PORT BOTANY in New South Wales, Australia in connection with the seizure of $80 million worth of methamphetamines. The suspects, all in their early thirties, were arrested on 8th February and are expected to appear in an Australian court today.
The arrests were made in relation to a January seizure of 130 kg of methamphetamine that was found concealed within paraffin wax slabs, shipped from Malaysia, and marked as bathroom accessories and tiles. The drugs were seized as part of an investigation by the NSW State Crime Command’s drug squad.
Narelle Mitchell, the Australian Federal Police Detective Superintendent stated that they would be focusing on using their international network established in more than 30 countries to identify the culprits moving drugs to Australia.
In August of 2022, the Australian Border Force found 1.8 tons of methamphetamine hidden in two separate consignments of marble slabs. The authorities found the drugs after cracking the slabs open, which were filled with $1.1 billion worth of illicit drugs. This was the largest meth seizure in the country’s history.
