A major accident in a dry dock at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited (CSSC) led to three deaths on June 16, – wrote Xinde Marine News on June 30.
According to Caixin Media, it seemed like at around 6 P.M. that day, while a container ship (H1557) was resembled in the NO.2 shipyard of SWS, a large block section mounted on the hull of the newbuilding fell into the dry dock from a height of 25 meters. The report declare that the accident was attributed to the improper coordination between the workers and the crane, resulting in the connection securing the block released at the wrong time.
The person in charge said they had already negotiated with bereaved families and made compensation.
H1557 is a 7,000TEU container ship built by SWS for Sea Consortium, a Singapore shipping company. The ship was under construction in August last year and was classified by ABS.
Since the beginning of this year, the frequency of manufacturing safety accidents in Shanghai has increased. Some districts have asked companies to shut down indefinitely to identify potential dangers.
