Two stages of the “Doors Project”, which was implemented to prevent trucks carrying cargo to Mersin International Port from interfering with city traffic, have been completed.

In the project carried out in partnership with the Governorship, Metropolitan Municipality, General Directorate of Highways, Republic of Turkey State Railways (TCDD) and Mersin International Port Management Inc. (MIP), the opening of the stages where the works were completed was held with a ceremony.

In the program where a promotional film about the project was shown, information was given about the work carried out to prevent the trucks carrying cargo to the port from interfering with the city traffic.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Ali Hamza Pehlivan said that Mersin International Port is among the largest ports in the world.

Referring to the importance of the “Doors Project”, Pehlivan said:

“Mersin International Port is considered Turkey’s largest port in terms of container capacity and ranks 92nd in the world. The traffic and density here is increasing day by day. The project to be implemented today was born from this need and is a solution to the problems, congestion and congestion experienced at the entrances on the eastern side of our city. It was initiated to eliminate traffic congestion. We laid the foundation last year these days. This project, which has 3 stages with a very fast work, is put into service today with 2 stages completed. The number of gates is increased with the project. Especially on the route separated from the D-400 highway, the lanes, widened roads and “With the changed routes, a more fluid traffic will be ensured and the problems caused by trucks at the entrance of the city, which also cause traffic safety problems, will be eliminated.”

Pehlivan also gave information about the Mersin International Port Expansion Project.

Stating that a new container port is also on the agenda, Pehlivan stated that survey studies have been initiated by the ministry.

Metropolitan Mayor Vahap Seçer also stated that Mersin stands out as a trade city thanks to its port.

PSA Europe-Mediterranean-America Regional Chief Executive Dirk Jan Storm emphasized that the Doors Project is one of the important examples of MIP and their determination to support the local economy and promotes a healthier environment for the people of Mersin.

“We will ensure that trucks enter and exit directly from the port”

MIP General Manager Ajay Kumar Singh stated that they have undertaken an important project and added:

“With the Gates Project, we will solve the freight traffic problem at the entrance of Mersin and enable the trucks coming to the port to enter and exit the port directly without interfering with the city traffic. By solving the traffic problem, we aim to benefit the increase in the trade volume of our city and the development of our region. Thanks to our investment, container and conventional cargo carrying vehicles, D- It can directly enter and exit from two connection points via the 400 highway. At the same time, we provide access to our port from 3 lanes with a new connection opened from 132nd Street. Thanks to the railway overpass built within the scope of the project, trucks will be able to move easily in traffic by passing under the passage. “

Following the speeches, the stages were opened. Within the scope of the project, truck drivers waiting at the gates that will allow access to the port entered the site with their vehicles after the opening.
