ultra large containership msc loreto joins msc’s fleet

The MSC LORETO, one of the largest containerships in the world with a loading capacity of 24,346 TEU, has been delivered to Seaspan Corporation. It will be operated by MSC under charter. The ship was built by Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group, and is the second vessel in a series of six being built by Yangzi Xinfu.

Equipped with modern technologies, such as a small bulbous bow, large diameter propellers, and energy-saving ducts, the MSC LORETO is highly efficient. The vessel has a total length of around 400m, a width of 61.3m, and a depth of 33.5m with a draft of 17m. It also has a deck area of around 24,000 square meters and can reach a maximum speed of 22.5 knots.

The MSC IRINA was the last such vessel inducted into MSC’s fleet, with the two vessels floated out together in October. However, the MSC IRINA was built by Jiangsu Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding Co. These container ships have the same length as other ultra-large container ships, but their specific deck rearrangement provides extra container capacity, with the highest container stack on these ships being 25 layers.
