Joan Calabuig, the President of VALENCIA Port, recently visited the construction site near the Principe Felipe dock, where a Photovoltaic plant is currently under development.
The project is reported to be 85% complete in terms of the supporting structures for the panels and 15% complete in terms of panel installation. Once finished, these panels will start supplying the port of VALENCIA with solar energy starting in the Autumn of this year. The installation is expected to generate 2,352 Mwh/year, accounting for approximately 3% of the port’s energy requirements.
Notably, this plant is one of two being built in the port of VALENCIA, with the other located on the Club Náutico breakwater. These projects combined are projected to cover around 14% of the port’s energy needs. Funding for these initiatives comes from the European Union’s Next Generation funds and the Spanish Government’s Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan.
Additionally, the plan includes another solar panel project on the roof of the Valencia Terminal Europa vehicle warehouse, where a pilot test for cell installation is already underway.
During the visit, discussions also centered around a proposal for an additional solar power plant on shed 4 of the port of Gandia. Moreover, other projects are underway, encompassing wind, solar, biomass, wave, hydrogen, and tidal energy. These comprehensive efforts aim to achieve emission neutrality for the port by 2030.
