Brand-new 11,000-TEU container ship WAN HAI A02 went out of control while maneuvering and turning around in Thi Vai river curve, Cai Mep, Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, at around 1735 LT Jul 13. The ship was leaving Cai Mep Container Terminal at that time. She moved on and contacted bulk carrier VASSOS 2, berthed at Interflour Terminal. The jolt and pressure on pier construction caused collapse of some 46 meters of pier, and destruction of conveyor and suction cargo handling equipment. WAN HAI A02 moved to Vung Tau outer anchorage and anchored at around 2000 LT same day. Remained anchored as of 1230 LT Jul 14, apparently awaiting the results of the ongoing investigation and damages assessment. The ship arrived at Cai Mep on Jul 13 from USA via Shenzhen, her next port of call being Shenzhen. According to port call records, this one is her second after maiden, voyage. No reports on both ships’ damages, probably slight.
