yangzijiang shipbuilding delivers fuel-efficient feeder vessel ‘maersk glacier’

Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, has successfully delivered the container ship “MAERSK GLACIER” to Lepta Shipping, a Japanese shipowner. Lepta has signed a charted deal with Maersk for the new vessel.

This delivery marks the fourth ship delivered by Yangzijiang Shipbuilding to Lepta Shipping, following a chartered deal with Maersk for new environmentally friendly feeder vessels. The previously delivered vessels include the “Maersk Arcadia,” “MAERSK BISCAYNE,” and “MAERSK EVERGLADES.”

The “MAERSK GLACIER” is one of the ten ships that Maersk has chartered for a period of seven years, specifically for its Intra Americas trade. The vessel has a capacity of 3,500 TEU and impressive dimensions, measuring 200 meters in length, 36.4 meters in width, and 20.6 meters in depth. The American Bureau of Shipping has classified it.

Designed to meet IMO requirements, the ship features advanced technologies to comply with the IMO’s Energy Efficiency Design Index III (EEDI). Maersk has highlighted that these vessels achieve a 12-15% fuel efficiency improvement per TEU through hydrodynamic optimizations and the implementation of selected energy-efficient technologies.

Equipped with selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology, both the main and auxiliary engines of the vessel ensure compliance with NOx Tier III regulations. Additionally, the ship boasts an integrated ship power system to support operations during port stays.
