zim integrated shipping services names two new lng-powered containerships

Israeli shipowner, ZIM Integrated Shipping Services, held a naming ceremony at the Samsung Heavy Industries’ Geoje yard in Korea on June 21st to unveil their two newly named LNG-powered containerships. The vessels have been named “ZIM MOUNT DENALI” and “ZIM MOUNT RAINIER.”

These two vessels, with a capacity of 15,000 TEU each, mark the fifth and sixth deliveries of the total of ten LNG vessels ordered by ZIM. The company has already signed a charter agreement for these vessels with Seaspan, a shipping company based in Hong Kong.

In 2021, ZIM entered into a construction deal for ten 15,000 TEU vessels, which will be deployed on ZIM’s Asia-US East Coast trade routes.

Measuring 366 meters in length, the new vessels are equipped with MAN ME-GI Engines and GTT’s Mark III Membrane technology. The first vessel in the series, named “ZIM SAMMY OFER,” was named earlier this year in February. In March, the vessel underwent LNG bunkering in Jamaica. This vessel is expected to offer emission reduction of approximately 23%.

Following the launch of “ZIM SAMMY OFER,” two additional vessels of the same class, namely “ZIM Mount Everest” and “ZIM Mount Blanc,” were named at the Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in April of this year.
