'Barbaros' is preparing for the voyage in Trabzon - News2Sea

Barbaros Hayrettin Pasha Seismic Research Ship is preparing to sail in Trabzon for oil exploration in the Black Sea.

The ship, anchored in Trabzon Port, will drill in places where oil signs are strong and will sail towards the coast of Rize’s Çayeli district in the spring months at the latest. Two support ships will accompany the ship during its work.

After the analysis of the samples taken off the coast of Rize’s Çayeli district revealed that the liquid leaking to the sea surface was oil, the Barbaros Hayrettin Pasha Seismic Research Ship, anchored in Trabzon Port, started counting the days for the oil expedition in the Black Sea.

Gümüşhane University Faculty of Natural Sciences Geological Engineer and Department Head Prof. Dr. Nafiz Maden set out to sea last September to take samples to determine whether there were oil reserves in the Eastern Black Sea.

In the samples that Maden took samples from the layers on the water, approximately 7 miles off the coast of Çayeli district, and sent them to the Turkish Petroleum Joint Stock Company to find out the oil potential, it was revealed that the liquid leaking to the surface of the sea was crude oil. Prof. Dr. Nafiz Maden stated that the leak in the samples was proven to be a natural oil source.

Barbaros Hayrettin Pasha Seismic Research Ship, which came to Trabzon Port last September and anchored, started counting the days for the oil expedition in the Black Sea after all these events. The ship, which is 84.2 meters long, 21.6 meters wide and weighs 4 thousand 711 gross tons, is drilling in places where oil signs are strong.
