An unidentified cargo ship struck mine in Black sea and sustained damages, she had to sail to Odessa or Ilyichevsk for repairs, according to Ukrainian news outlets. The ship was hit most probably, on Oct 18, understood at the time of accident she was in Danube Delta area. The ship might be identified as bulk carrier IDA, according to ships tracks and video, but it is not confirmed. IDA arrived at Danube Delta anchorage on Oct 14, destined for Sulina Romania, but in late Oct 18 she left anchorage and sailed towards Odessa or Ilyichevsk port (new destination) nearby with ship repair facilities. Ship’s ID is speculative based on available information, awaiting updates, official statement on ship’s ID.
Coastal States Bulgaria and Romania, meanwhile, launched joint mine sweeping operation, to clear from mines inner waters and bordering recommended lanes in intl waters, to make navigation safe from mines. A joint group was established, embracing some 5-6 Bulgarian mine sweepers and frigates, and Romanian mine sweeper.
