Bulker loaded with ammonium phosphate on fire | MV ABUSAMAH - News2Sea

Fire erupted in engine room of bulk carrier ABUSAMAH berthed at Cilegon port, western Java, Sunda Strait, at around 0500 LT (UTC +7), and soon engulfed all engine room. The ship was loading fertilizer, ammonium phosphate, some 1,500 tons were already loaded. Attempts to extinguish fire failed, fire continued spreading, so it was decided to take the ship from berth to anchorage, to avoid fire spreading to other ships. She was brought to anchorage by 4 tugs, with firefighting continuing. Fire might spread to cargo, which emits toxic fumes when on fire. It requires also, special extinguisher. No updates on firefighting and ship’s status as of 1950 LT. All 27 crew left the ship, no injures reported.
