Environmentally friendly fishermen take the garbage caught in their nets to the shore - News2Sea

Alper and Aytaç Güzelaydın brothers, who are fishing in Kastamonu’s Çatalzeytin district, collect the garbage caught in the nets they set in the Black Sea, where they set out to hunt, in their boats, and take them to the shore and deliver them to the municipal teams.

Güzelaydın brothers, who do industrial fishing in the region with their boat named AG Fisheries, throw their nets into the sea off the coast of Abana-Çatalzeytin. The fishermen, who do not throw the garbage caught in the nets and ropes back into the sea, but take them to their boats, return to the port at the end of the day with the garbage they collected and the fish they caught.

The Güzelaydın brothers, who take the garbage to the pier, collect the waste to be delivered to the municipal teams.

Aytaç Güzelaydın, who is also the President of Konaklı Port Fisheries Cooperative, pointed out that many waste materials were transported to the Black Sea with the flood disasters on August 11, 2021 and June 27, 2022 and the subsequent floods.

Emphasizing that the areas where fish can shelter are filled with garbage, Güzelaydın said, “We personally witness in our fishing activities that all the wells and hunting areas where fish can shelter are filled with garbage. We collect all the garbage caught in our nets and ropes as much as we can and bring them back to the port in the evening. We also take our fishermen friends to the sensitivity for sustainable fishing.” “I invite you. If they bring the garbage to us from their hunting activities in our region, we are ready to destroy it.” said.

“We want a clean sea for sustainable fishing”

Güzelaydın pointed out that they deliver approximately 4 containers of garbage to the shore per day and continued as follows:

“Most of these are household wastes that reach the sea from floods, mainly tires, which are thought to be nests for fish, but they are irrelevant. Car parts, mobile garbage and plastics change places in the sea a lot and affect the migration routes of fish. We cannot achieve our previous performance. We want a clean sea for sustainable fishing.” “If everyone does their best, we, as fishermen, are ready to do what is necessary.”

“20 years from now we will be talking about fish that don’t exist.”

Fisherman Alper Güzelaydın also emphasized the marine pollution and said, “Today, we are talking about 20 years ago. ‘There was such a fish’. 20 years from now, we will talk about today, the fish that does not exist.” he said.

Güzelaydın underlined that everyone has a great responsibility in keeping the sea clean and said, “The sea is dirty, but the fish are not dirty? The bottom of the sea is piled up with garbage. Now let’s take a hand and clean the sea. Let’s do something as much as we can. Whiting is over, anchovy is over, the sea is over.” “Can’t you see that the sea is running out and crying? But we see the bottom of the sea. We are ready to be your eyes. The sea has lost its taste, not just the fish.” said.
