fatih of discovery continues drilling in the black sea

Fatih Drilling Ship, which has discovered 710 billion cubic meters of natural gas through drilling in the Black Sea in recent years, continues its exploration activities for new good news without slowing down.

Turkey, which has a strong high-tech energy fleet in recent years with the investments it has made in the supply of ships for natural gas and oil exploration at sea, has risen to a position to meet its own needs in seismic and drilling activities.

In this context, Turkey established a giant energy fleet consisting of Fatih, Yavuz, Kanuni and Abdülhamit drilling ships and Barbaros Hayreddin Paşa and MTA Oruç Reis seismic search ships.

Fatih Drilling Ship, the first member of the inventory and the one that made the biggest discoveries in the history of natural gas, joined the fleet in 2017 within the Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO). Turkey, which has stepped up its drilling activities with the arrival of Fatih, carried out the first drilling with this ship in the Alanya-1 deep sea well in October 2018.

First drilling in the Black Sea in July 2020

Fatih was sent off from Haydarpaşa Port to carry out the first national drilling in the Black Sea on May 29, 2020, the 567th anniversary of the conquest of Istanbul after the Eastern Mediterranean. The rigs of the Fatih drilling ship were dismantled so that it could pass through the Bosphorus, and the ship anchored at Trabzon Port on June 6 to have the rigs reassembled.

Fatih, which set out again after the preparation process here, started the first national deep-sea drilling in the Black Sea on July 20, at the location called Tuna-1 off the coast of Zonguldak, with a depth target of 3 thousand 500-4 thousand meters. Fatih, which gave the good news of the first natural gas discovery of 320 billion cubic meters from the Tuna-1 well in August 2020, increased the total amount of natural gas in the Tuna-1 region to 405 billion cubic meters with the discovery of an additional 85 billion cubic meters on October 17, 2020.

Continuing its exploration activities in Amasra-1, Fatih made a new discovery of 135 billion cubic meters of natural gas in the Amasra-1 well on June 4, 2021. With the discovery in question, the natural gas reserves in the country increased to 540 billion cubic meters.

With three-dimensional modeling commissioned by an international evaluation company, the reserve size in the Sakarya field was revised to 652 billion cubic meters. Towards the end of December 2022, Fatih made a new reserve discovery of 58 billion cubic meters in the Çaycuma-1 well located in the Sakarya Gas Field. Thus, Turkey’s total discovered natural gas reserves increased to 710 billion cubic meters.

In the Sakarya Gas Field off the coast of Zonguldak, Fatih drills in wells where gas is detected and carries out exploration activities in locations with gas potential. Fatih, which took a maintenance break from the work it started in the Filyos-1 well on September 29, anchored in Filyos Port last week. Fatih, accompanied by 3 logistics ships, will complete the maintenance work here and set sail for new drilling.

It can drill to 12 thousand meters

Fatih, which was built in South Korea in 2011 and whose nationalization work was completed in Turkey, has 6th generation technology and can perform offshore drilling even at a depth of 12 thousand 200 meters and under very high pressure.

Fatih, which is among the top 5 ships in the world with high technology, carries out offshore deep gas drilling.

Fatih is 229 meters long, 36 meters wide and weighs 51 thousand 283 gross tons.
