The General Directorate of Maritime Affairs of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure denied the allegations that the Turkish-flagged Kafkametler ship, which was on a route from Batumi Port to Ukraine’s Izmail Port, hit a mine while cruising off the coast of Romania/Sulina.

A statement was made on the General Directorate’s social media account regarding the news “Turkish ship hit a mine” published in some media outlets.

The following statements were made in the statement stating that the Turkish-flagged Kafkametler ship, which was on a route from Batumi Port to Ukraine’s Izmail Port, had an explosion 15-20 meters behind, while it was sailing off the coast of Romania/Sulina yesterday:

“Following the incident, contact was made with the ship and the operator by our Search and Rescue Coordination Center affiliated with the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure. The explosion in question did not occur on the ship and there was no evidence of a mine explosion. There was no damage to the ship, and the ship’s cargo was transferred to Ukraine. “It continues its journey to deliver it to Izmail Port.”
