Warning from Tuzla Port Authority

Warning from Tuzla Port Authority - News2Sea

Tuzla Port Authority published an announcement regarding the rain and winds expected on 25-26 November.

While the effects of the ship accidents that occurred in Kdz Ereğli on November 19 are still continuing in the country, the Tuzla Port Authority of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure has published a new announcement about port anchorages in order to prevent the same accidents from happening again in the upcoming rains.

Based on the weather and sea observation reports obtained from the General Directorate of Meteorology and other weather forecast systems, the decisions and guidance taken due to the unusual wind and wave height expected especially on 25-26 November are as follows:

1) Increasing the minimum safe distance between ships anchored and to be anchored in Tuzla and Kartal Anchorage Fields to 5 cables,

2) All ships in and around the anchorage area must constantly monitor other navigational communication tools such as VHF Channel 16, Navtex, etc. and take into account any urgent warnings from local authorities,

3) Staying in constant contact with Izmit Vessel Traffic Services, Coast Guard and other law enforcement units in case of emergency,

4) Ships at anchor must have personnel and fuel to operate their engines as quickly as possible and keep the ship in a safe position for at least 48 hours,

5) Securely mooring all ships and marine vehicles in the shipyard and port, and securing equipment such as cranes/cranes that may tip over,

6) The tugboats belonging to Gemi İnşaat Sanayi A.Ş., which provides pilotage and tugboat services in Tuzla Aydınlı Bay, should be prepared for emergencies,

It is important to ensure the safety of navigation, life, property and the environment, and it is strongly recommended that the issue be conveyed to all relevant parties, member facilities and ship captains at anchor.
