24 people were rescued from the floating dock that sank in the shipyard in Kocaeli.

A pump malfunction occurred while taking the yacht to the floating dock, where ship maintenance was carried out at a private shipyard in Sepetlipınar District of Başiskele district.

Meanwhile, the floating pool with 24 people in it sank.

Upon notification, health and fire brigade teams were dispatched to the scene.

24 people, including the pilot, were rescued by the teams.

Two personnel who were slightly injured in the incident were taken to hospital by ambulance. It was learned that the health condition of the staff is good.

On the other hand, Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Environmental Protection and Control Department teams worked in the region to prevent the oil leaking from the floating dock into the sea from spreading.

Mesut Önem, Head of the Environmental Protection and Control Department, told journalists that they intervened to prevent possible pollution in the region.

Explaining that they eliminated the pollution on the sea surface, Önem said, “We saw that oil and oil-derived pollution was occurring. We first prevented the distribution of the pollution by quickly surrounding it with barriers, and then we worked to reduce the effects of that pollution by throwing oil absorbent pads into the sea.” he said.

Önem added that the expenses incurred within the scope of the works will be collected from the responsible company.
