56 kilos of cocaine seized in Mersin Port - News2Sea

56 kilograms of cocaine were seized during a search in a container at Mersin Port.

According to the statement made by the Ministry of Commerce, a ship coming from Ecuador was followed within the framework of risk analysis and targeting studies carried out by the teams of Mersin Customs Enforcement Smuggling and Intelligence Directorate. After the ship approached the port, the suspicious container determined by the customs protection teams was tracked and lowered to the port area, and then ‘x-ray’ scanned. As a result of the scan, suspicious density was detected, and a search was carried out in the company of narcotic detector dogs.

As the detector dogs reacted to the areas where the density was detected, the said parts were subjected to a detailed search. As a result of the search, many packages were found, stashed in the cooler part of the container. When the sample was analyzed in the drug and chemical detection device, it turned out to be cocaine. As a result of the measurements, 56 kilograms of cocaine were seized.

It was reported that the investigation into the incident continues before the Mersin Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.
