Abundance of fish in the Black Sea

There is an abundance of fish on the stalls in Sinop, one of Turkey’s important fishing cities.

The decrease in sea water temperature along with snowfall in the region caused an increase in fishing.

In addition to the large boats sailing in the city, coastal fishermen also return to the shelters with different types of fish they catch.

Fish such as anchovy, whiting, horse mackerel, sea bass, shad, mullet and blue fish caught in the nets were sold on the stalls at prices ranging from 30 to 120 lira per kilogram.

Sinop Central Fisheries Cooperative President Namık Ünlü said that there is an increase in fish catch, especially anchovy.

Emphasizing that different types of fish were caught in the nets, Ünlü said, “We were expecting an increase in hunting in general as the temperature of the sea water decreased. Thank God, we started to see it gradually. We think this will gradually increase.” he said.
