The night started with the opening speech of GMO Chairman Bülent Hüseyinoğlu. Hüseyinoğlu’s speech was followed by Binali Yıldırım, the 27th Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkey.

Binali Yıldırım, the 27th Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkey and Chairman of the Aksakallar Delegation of the Organization of Turkish States (TDT), started his speech by thanking the President of the Chamber of Naval Engineers, Bülent Hüseyinoğlu, and the board of directors. Stating his pleasure in coming together on the occasion of the founding anniversary of the Chamber of Naval Engineers, Yıldırım continued his words as follows:

“Our country is a shining star in the field of shipbuilding”

“We have the opportunity to meet each other, meet each other, make up for our longings and exchange information. It has become traditional. The Chamber of Naval Engineers is the first non-governmental organization and the first engineering professional chamber established after the multi-party system. I wish God’s mercy to our valuable professionals who founded the Chamber of Naval Engineers and who are not among us today. Dear colleagues, the shipbuilding industry started locally and nationally much earlier than other branches of industry. It’s not like aviation, it’s not like other fields. The shipbuilding industry began to build ships in the sixties. This journey started with Abidin Daver Ship, Şükrü Okan Ship, Şehir Hatları Ship and tugboats; Today, it has reached a level of competence in making all kinds of world brand boats in Tuzla and Yalova. This is thanks to you, my colleagues. Our country is a shining star in the field of shipbuilding. In general terms, maritime is a global business. Maritime is such an industry that without ships, half of the people in the world would die of hunger and thirst. Because we all know that ninety percent of transportation is done by sea. In other words, it is transported by ships built by our colleagues. Nothing compares to the joy and excitement that a person feels when he sees the ship he designed land in the sea and start swimming. As a colleague of yours who has experienced these processes, fate took us to the side of politics and we tried to do many tasks for our country there, but we never moved away from our engineering understanding and engineering standards. We always accounted for the work we did and the steps we would take by making a book. Of course, there are things we do and things we don’t do. History will put this in its place.

“One day the war crime committed in Palestine will be held accountable.”

Dear friends, I would like to repeat what our president just said. Today the world has moved away from justice. Today, the world is going through a process in which the strong are right, not the one in which the right is strong. In front of the eyes of the world, those innocent children, women and civilians who have nothing are being brutally murdered with the most advanced weapons. An ethnic cleansing is being carried out in Palestine, a war crime is being committed. Those who do these things today should not think that they will get away with them. One day, things will come back. Of course, these accounts can and should be asked. If we want a more just world, if we want a more peaceful world, we must realize an order in which the right is strong, not the strong.

Celebrated Türk Loydu’s IACS membership

One of the best news of this evening is that our national classification society Türk Loydu is a member of IACS. This is a good development for our industry. It was all our dream to make this happen. Today this dream has come true. I would like to thank all our colleagues who contributed. I would like to express once again my pleasure in being together with you, our esteemed colleagues, on this night. I would like to sincerely thank the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Naval Engineers, the Board of Directors and all those who contributed for bringing us together, and I wish you all a good evening.

Topics included in the speech of GMO Chairman of the Board of Directors Bülent Hüseyinoğlu;

“We are both guardians and implementers of the republican revolutions”

“Dear friends and colleagues; Welcome to the 69th Annual Meeting of our Chamber of Naval Engineers. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of our Republic, I salute with respect and love Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his friends who fought for the liberation of our occupied homeland, which was caught in the middle of imperialist divisions. We, Naval Engineers, are both guardians and implementers of the Republican revolutions. We act in every field, considering the professional, colleague and public interest. While implementing engineering science, we do not forget our ethical values and use the country’s resources in the best way possible, with the highest efficiency in our work. On the occasion of this beautiful night, I congratulate the IACS membership of our national classification society Türk Loydu, which was established in 1962 with the high vision and foresight of the founding members of the Chamber of Naval Engineers. We are happy that Türk Loydu has successfully completed its struggle for the last thirty years and has become the 12th member of IACS. We are proud of this. On this occasion, we would like to thank our dear colleagues who took part in the establishment of Türk Loydu and all Türk Loydu employees who have served for decades and contributed to this process.”

“We stand by the independence of the Palestinian people”

“Another issue that I would like to bring to your valuable attention is the knowledge that we stand by the independence of the Palestinian people, who are oppressed and murdered by the Israeli occupation and tyranny that continues right next to us, every minute of every hour. This is one of our primary duties. It is our duty to stand by the oppressed people. Let’s not forget that happiness and bright days will not come unless man’s cruelty to man ends. “I hope our unity and solidarity will last forever.”

At the Chamber Night, plaques were presented to members who completed their 60th, 50th, 40th and 25th years in the profession. Then, plaques of appreciation were given to the companies that sponsored the 69th Anniversary Night and those who supported the scholarship campaign launched by GMO.

“Our aim is to give scholarships equal to Oda’s age.”

Chamber of Naval Engineers Board Member İlham Çelebi presented plaques to our members and companies that supported our scholarship campaign. Stating that our campaign continues, Çelebi continued as follows:

“Some of us became engineers, shipyard managers, shipyard owners, members of parliament, ministers and even prime ministers. But remember, you were all students once. You have all experienced the difficulties of being a student. Never forget this. As our chamber, we try to give scholarships to students as many as the age of the chamber every year. This year, we gave scholarships to 69 students. Our dream is to give scholarships to 400 students who start studying marine engineering every year. “We can achieve this together.”

The night continued with great interest and participation, and after the plaque ceremony, Grup Ayna took the stage. The night ended with a traditional lottery draw and the giving of gifts to the winners.
