Following the contract signed between the two companies in November 2022, the launch ceremony of Longera, whose first sheet metal was cut on January 17, 2023, was attended by Atlas Shipyard and Longship officials, as well as many guests.

The ceremony, hosted by Başak Şengül, started with the celebration of the 100th Anniversary of our Republic. Atlas Shipyard Chairman of the Board of Directors Enver Murat Başbay welcomed the guests as part of the opening speech.

“I hope it will be the first step of long-term cooperation with Longship”

Başbay stated that, as Atlas Shipyard, he is very pleased with the cooperation with Longship and wishes that this cooperation will lead to the continuation of new projects:

“I hope that this 4-ship agreement will be the first step of a long-term cooperation starting with Longship. And on this occasion, I would like to especially thank Mr. Oyvind Sivertsen, one of the partners of Longship, who played a very important role in establishing the cooperation between Atlas Shipyard and Longship. He closely followed every stage of this project and contributed greatly to achieving the best result. The launching of this ship is undoubtedly the result of a great team effort. “I would also like to express our gratitude to our entire team, project management, Atlas shipyard employees and subcontractors who contributed to the construction of this ship and the preparations for the launch ceremony,” he said.

After Beşbay’s speech, Longship Chairman of the Board of Directors Oyvind Sivertsen took the podium and spoke.

Sivertsen started his speech by congratulating the 100th Anniversary of our Republic. Pointing out their satisfaction with the cooperation between them and Atlas Shipyard, Sivertsen said:

“When you set out to do successful work, you need to work with people you trust and do it together. “We are very pleased with our relationship with Atlas Shipyard and proud of our project,” he said.

The Longera cargo ship met the sea accompanied by the 10th Anniversary March, after a family photo was taken along with the presentation of a plaque and a gift in memory of the day.

The ship has a length of 130.5m, a width of 15.9m, a deck height of 10.8m and is equipped with a diesel-electric propulsion system. The ship, which will have much lower fuel consumption compared to similar ships, aims to reduce its carbon footprint and consume much more environmentally friendly fuels such as methanol instead of fossil fuels in the future; It is designed to be ready for hybrid propulsion systems.
