Bombardier loses Canadian maritime patrol tender to Boeing - News2Sea

Canadian aviation company Bombardier lost Canada’s Maritime Patrol Aircraft tender to the US company Boeing. Canada will supply P-8A Poseidon.

Boeing’s P-8A Poseidon aircraft won Canada’s long-running maritime patrol aircraft tender. The project to be developed from the Global 6500 business jet offered by Canadian aviation giant Bombardier was not accepted.

P-8As, developed from Boeing 737 aircraft, will replace P-3 Orions in Canada. Canada will purchase a total of 16 aircraft, 14 of which are firm and 2 are options.

According to Tolga Özbek’s news; According to the agreement made between Canada and the US Government on November 30, delivery will begin in 2026. One aircraft delivery will be made every month.

Currently, the Royal Canadian Air Force has been using P-3s on maritime patrol missions since 1980. The retirement date of the aircraft, which Canadians call CP-140, is 2030.

Total 10.4 billion Canadian dollars

Canada started working on purchasing aircraft last year. Boeing submitted the P-8A and Bombardier submitted the model developed from the Global 6500 business jet. A total of 10.4 billion Canadian dollars, or approximately 7.7 billion dollars, was planned for the project.

After the needle turned to P-8 in Canada in recent days, Bombardier took one last step, but it was not successful. In the proposal prepared by Bombardier, it was planned to place different ammunition in the lower part of the business jet and under the wing.

Currently, Bombardier’s Global series business jets are being developed as different special mission platforms, including Turkey’s Air-SOJ Project.

P-8 became the most important player in the market

Developed from the Boeing 737NG model, the P-8 has now become the US Navy’s standard maritime patrol aircraft, replacing the P-3s. The aircraft, which has new generation systems, can also fire AGM-84 H/K SLAM-ER, AGM-84 HARPOON, Mark 54 torpedoes, 5 of which are inside the fuselage and 6 of which are external.

Countries that use or order P-8 include the USA, Germany, Australia, South Korea, England, India, Canada, Norway and New Zealand.

To date, P-8 has been detected around 180 times in different countries, according to open source data. (SavunmaSanayiST.com)
