China’s first ocean drilling ship received full marks during its trial voyage.
The ocean drilling ship named “Mengxiang” (Dream), developed by China with domestic technology, successfully completed its first trial voyage in the waters off Zhujiang in the south of the country today.
In its first attempt, Mengxiang traveled nearly 500 nautical miles at sea, successfully completing the commissioning and verification of 19 key marine systems such as the ship’s propulsion system and anchorage.
The ocean drillship’s small-tonnage, multi-functional modular design allows the ship to adapt to the berthing requirements of most ports around the world, and the construction and operating cost of the new ship is reportedly more than 40 percent lower than similar international drillships.
