ICS revises transit recommendations in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden - News2Sea

The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) sent a letter “Revised Transit Recommendations in the Southern Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden” to the IMEAK Chamber of Shipping.

The Chamber of Shipping published the letter sent by the International Chamber of Shipping about the ‘Revised Transit Recommendations in the Southern Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden’.

The article asked members to be informed that ongoing attacks on merchant shipping in the Southern Red Sea by Houthi forces in Yemen remain the highest security concern currently facing the sector.

It was also reported that in response to the escalation of incidents and the expansion of ships targeted by the Houthis, sector security experts from the Roundtable, OCIMF, CLIA and IMCA revised the transit advice for the southern Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

It was stated that the revised document includes detailed recommendations about the threat in the region, as well as issues regarding route determination, strengthening of ships and the use of armed guards, which should be taken into account in threat and risk assessments for all voyages in affected waters.

Again, in the article taken from ICS; It was stated that the Joint War Committee published an advisory statement on 18.12.2023, reflecting the increased risk in the areas included in the ‘List of War, Piracy, Terrorism and Related Dangerous Areas Designated for Ships’.

In the article, it was emphasized that the Red Sea notification area was adjusted 3 degrees north from the south of 15° north latitude to the south of 18° north latitude and Guyana was included in the new list. (7Sea)
