It was stated that Israeli forces injured two Palestinian fishermen off the coast of the blockaded Gaza Strip.

Speaking to AA correspondent, Palestinian Fishermen’s Union President Nizar Ayaş stated that the Israeli navy opened fire with real bullets on Palestinians fishing off the coast of Rafah city in the south of the Gaza Strip.

Stating that a Palestinian fisherman father and his son were injured in the incident, Ayaş said that the injured were sent to the hospital.

The Israeli army has not yet made a statement on the issue.

Israel has been blockading the Gaza Strip, where approximately 2 million Palestinians live, by land, sea and air since 2006.

According to the Palestinian Ministry of Agriculture, fishing is known as one of the leading sources of income in Gaza, where there are nearly 4 thousand fishermen.

In addition to other Israeli violations, fishermen in Gaza are subject to frequent detentions and seizures of their boats, according to reports by human rights organizations.
