Oil and fuel leakage into the sea from the container-laden ship that sank at Iskenderun Limak Port yesterday was prevented.

In the statement made by the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs, it was stated that fuel leaked from the ship “Sea Eagle” into the sea at the time of the accident.

In the statement, which stated that the ship was surrounded by barriers against leakage, the following statements were included:

“The fuel leaking into the sea is under control with the barriers pulled at the time of the accident, mechanical and physical cleaning is carried out, fuel tanks carrying 63.5 tons of ‘diesel oil’ are closed, oil and fuel leaks are stopped by the divers. The technical team appointed by the ship’s insurance company has started the work of emptying the fuel tanks.”

On the other hand, the work to remove the containers that fell into the sea from the ship continues.

The container ship that was lying on its side at the pier at Iskenderun Limak Port to unload its cargo yesterday took water and sank.
