The sea meadows in the depths of Izmit Bay, off the coast of Kocaeli’s Karamürsel district, were recorded.

Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Environmental Protection Department prepared a documentary film with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry to promote and protect the seagrasses in Izmit Bay.

In this context, the diving was carried out by underwater cinematographer and documentary producer Tahsin Ceylan, with the support of the Metropolitan Municipality and Değirmendere Underwater Sports Club, and General Manager of Fisheries and Aquaculture Altuğ Atalay and his team also participated.

Ceylan pointed out that people owe 20 percent of the oxygen in the air they breathe to seagrass meadows and emphasized that protecting these creatures means protecting life in a sense.

Atalay also explained that, as the General Directorate of Fisheries and Aquaculture and Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality, they are trying to revitalize this region of the Marmara Sea, protect biodiversity and act together in many projects.

Stating that it is a pleasure to see the positive results of the studies, Atalay noted that there are very strong meadows in the Marmara Sea and many creatures clustered around them continue their lives.
