Shell announces new natural gas discovery off the coast of Egypt

In the written statement made by Shell, it was stated that the new reserve is located in the privileged area in the northeast of Amiriyye in the Mediterranean.

In the statement, it was stated that the drilling of the first well has been completed within the scope of the project carried out to drill three wells in the concession area, and it is not yet possible to provide information about the total gas reserves.

The statement noted that preliminary data confirmed the existence of a gas-bearing layer, but that the data received should be evaluated further to determine the scope of the discovery and potential production, and that the data obtained from the first well whose drilling work was completed indicated the existence of a gas-bearing layer at a depth of 250 meters above sea level.

Shell Egypt Chairman of the Board of Directors, Halid Kasım, whose views were included in the statement, evaluated the new discovery as “an important step forward for Shell Egypt to achieve its goals of having a greater share in the local market and creating a positive impact.”
