Tersan Shipyard, Turkey’s leading shipbuilding company, announced that it acquired Havyard Leirvik Shipyard, one of the group companies of EQVA Norway.

The acquisition is expected to strengthen Tersan Shipyard’s position in both Northern Europe and the global shipbuilding industry.

Havyard Leirvik Shipyard, one of Norway’s most established and oldest shipyards, was founded in 1918 and today serves on a total area of 98,000 m2. Located at the mouth of the Sognefjord, Norway’s and Northern Europe’s longest fjord, close to Bergen, Havyard Leirvik is one of Norway’s best-known shipyards with a long history of building high-quality ships and providing ship repair and maintenance services.

With the acquisition of Havyard Leirvik Shipyard, Tersan Shipyard aims to strengthen its operations in Europe, increase its production capacity and develop joint working methods with a shipyard located in Europe. This acquisition will enable the shipyards to combine their expertise, know-how and customer portfolio and offer more attractive services for the construction of a wider range of high-quality ships, after-sales services and general ship maintenance activities.

Tersan Shipyard Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors Ahmet T. Paksu said, “We are very excited to announce the acquisition of Havyard Leirvik Shipyard.” “We believe that this investment is an important step for Tersan Shipyard. We already collaborate with Havyard Leirvik on project-based examples, but with this acquisition we will be able to potentially create a broader partnership structure. By combining our expertise and resources with those of Havyard Leirvik Shipyard, we are confident that we can achieve our long-term goals and strengthen our position in the global shipbuilding industry. We thank EQVA and Havyard Leirvik for their support in ensuring a smooth transition between the companies.”

Tor Leif Mogstad, CEO of Havyard Leirvik: “We are looking forward to joining Tersan Shipyard. Tersan Shipyard is a well-positioned, respected company in the international shipping and maritime market and we appreciate its clear aim to use Havyard Leirvik as a stepping stone to further strengthen its position in Northern Europe.”

The purchase transactions between the two shipyards will be completed by the end of the year, subject to procedures and approvals.
