“Maximiles Black The Bodrum Cup” sailing races, which were held for the 35th time this year, in Bodrum district of Muğla, have started.
Muğla Governor İdris Akbıyık, Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Osman Gürün, Bodrum District Governor Mustafa Çit, Bodrum Mayor Ahmet Aras and protocol members attended the starting ceremony of the races and held the opening ceremony from a boat.
Later, a wreath was laid at the sea for Oktay Tüfek, Emin Buldanlı, Erol Taşbaşlı, Nihan Eren and Desiree van der Sande, who lost their lives last year.
After the ceremony, dozens of boats waiting for the race time created a visual feast with their sails.
In his statement before the competition, Honorary Chairman of the Race Committee Erman Aras said that they visited Thessaloniki, Greece, the birthplace of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Republic.
Stating that they had very emotional moments in Thessaloniki, Aras said:
“We have been at sea for 20 days. From there we came to Çanakkale and expressed our gratitude to our martyrs. We sailed from the place where Atatürk opened his eyes to Dolmabahçe, where he closed his eyes. In Dolmabahçe, we stood in silence on all our boats and paid our respects to our Ata and all We thanked our comrades in arms. The Republic is their trust to us. All our gulets sailing in the Bosphorus left with very beautiful visuals. We came to Bodrum by racing. Today, we are starting the Bodrum Cup race. Our races will last 5 days, approximately 150 of our yachts are at sea. “There are over 1,500 local and foreign people. Exciting moments await us at the Bodrum Cup.”
After the ceremony, the competition started. The race, which will extend from Bodrum to Çökertme and Kissebükü, will also be completed in Bodrum. The winners of the races will be given their trophies before the Candan Erçetin concert to be held on Saturday, October 21st.
