Turkish Shipbuilding Manufacturers Association is at UNEP/MAP-Barcelona

Turkish Shipbuilding Manufacturers Association received approval to participate in UNEP/MAP-Barcelona Convention meetings as an NGO.

This year, the Turkish Shipbuilding Manufacturers Association (GISBİR) also attended the UNEP/MAP-Barcelona Convention meeting held in Portoroz, Slovenia.

The institution, represented by GISBİR Board Member Türkan Manasır Öz and GISBİR Secretary General Mehtap Özdemir, also received approval to participate in the said event as a non-governmental organization from now on.

Thus, GİSBİR will have the opportunity to explain the environmentally friendly projects it has developed for the sector under the umbrella of the United Nations.

GISBİR recently started to support the Determination, Mapping and Transplantation of Seagrass Distribution Project and the first seagrass meadows were planted in Göcek Bay.

In the statement made by GISBİR, it was said that “we support every environmental project”.

UNEP/MAP-Barcelona Convention nedir?

The United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) established the Mediterranean Action Plan (MAP) as a multilateral environmental agreement within the Regional Seas Program in 1975. UNEP/MAP presented the Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment and Coastal Zone of the Mediterranean (Barcelona Convention).

UNEP/MAP and the Contracting Parties to the Barcelona Convention (21 Mediterranean countries and the European Union) have progressively established a uniquely comprehensive institutional, legal and implementation framework that integrates the basic building blocks of sustainability in the Mediterranean.

The activities, programs and projects implemented by MAP Components, including the MAP Coordination Unit and six Regional Activity Centers (RACs) operating in host Mediterranean countries, transform the vision of a healthy and prosperous Mediterranean into an ever-expanding set of achievements.
