12 people missing after boat sank in northwestern myanmar river

12 people disappeared from the boat that capsized and sank in the river in the Sagaing region of Myanmar.

Myanmar’s official news agency announced that the boat capsized and sank after being caught in a strong current in the Chindwin River in the Sagaing region in the northwestern part of the country on September 19.

It was stated that 6 civilians, 3 crew members and 3 security personnel on the boat that sank in the Chindwin River were lost.

In the statement, it was stated that the boat was part of the goods transport convoy.

Speaking to the AP reporter, local people said that the fleet in question consisted of 11 boats.

In October 2016, 70 people lost their lives when a boat carrying 200 passengers sank on the Chindwin River, one of the main shipping routes in the region.
