Bulgarian bulk carrier drug bust, Ireland - News2Sea

At least 300 kilos of high-grade cocaine were found on board of Bulgarian bulk carrier VERILA on Dec 19 by joint Customs and Guards Security officers team at Foynes Ireland, during security operation. It is said, that search continued, expecting to find more drugs, with total weight of some 500 kilos. Cocaine was packed in reportedly, buoyant bale, fitted with GPS beacon, so supposedly it was to be thrown overboard in some predetermined position. The ship arrived with cargo of grain from Canada, where she arrived in early Nov from Brazil, leaving Montreal on Dec 9. Crew and ship put under detention during ongoing investigation, no news yet on crew possible involvement.
