Cargo ship with a crew of 16 was hijacked off the coast of Somalia

It was reported that a cargo ship was hijacked by pirates off the coast of Somalia.

In his statement to the press, Iranian businessman Bashir Saeed Osman shared the information that a cargo ship belonging to them was hijacked off the coast of Putland region of Somalia.

Noting that there was a crew of 16 people on the ship, consisting of Somalis and Iranians, Osman stated that the pirates demanded a ransom of 400 thousand dollars for the release of the ship and the crew.

Puntland State Police Chief Muumin Abdi Shire, in his statement to journalists, stated that security forces were working to save the ship and crew.

While pirates in Somalia attacked cargo ships and kidnapped them for ransom until 2017, there has been a decrease in pirate attacks since then.
