Cargo ship sank, 2 dead 2 missing, disabled Capesize bulker adrift, typhoon NALGAE | JUNIOR - News2Sea

Taiwanese cargo ship identified as DE XING (NO) was struck by unknown cargo ship early in the morning Oct 28 west of Penghu, Taiwan, Taiwan Strait, broke in two and sank. Of 13 crew on board, 9 were rescued, 2 were recovered dead, and 2 including Captain went missing, understood SAR is still underway, see map. DE XING was en route from Kaohsiung to Kinmen islands, understood it’s Taiwanese coastal freighter.
Bulk carrier JUNIOR lost power in the afternoon Oct 30 and drifted towards Penghu islands. She dropped anchor but couldn’t stand against strong wind, anchor dragged. As of 1500 UTC Oct 31, it looks like she’s dragging anchor and drifting towards Penghu main island. Tugs can’t assist troubled ship because of storm brought by typhoon NALGAE. JUNIOR is en route from Vietnam to Ningbo.
