It was reported that the cargo ship “Raptor”, carrying 14 people, sank off the coast of Lesbos.

In the statement made by the Greek Coast Guard, it was stated that the ship carrying salt from Egypt to Istanbul sank off the coast of Lesbos Island and a sailor was rescued from the ship.

It was stated in the statement that search and rescue efforts were continuing in the incident that occurred approximately 4.5 nautical miles southwest of the island, and that the ship’s crew consisted of 2 Syrians, 4 Indians and 8 Egyptians.

The Greek coast guard is carrying out search and rescue operations to find 14 missing sailors from sea and air in the region.

Authorities evaluated that the ship took on water and sank due to the strong storm and giant waves.
