The crew of the vessel “CMA CGM URAL” executed a successful rescue mission, saving two sailors near Bermuda last week.

The 53-foot ketch-rigged yacht named “Relentless” set sail from St. George’s in Bermuda on December 9th, with a destination set for the Bahamas. The yacht, carrying two American crew members, encountered adverse weather conditions and experienced “technical difficulties” approximately 400 miles south of Bermuda. Faced with worsening conditions, the crew made the decision to abandon ship.

Upon activating their Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB), the distress signal was received by the U.S. Coast Guard and the Rescue Coordination Center in Miami. A call for assistance was broadcasted to merchant ships, and the CMA CGM URAL promptly responded. The ship was en route from Florida to Europe at the time and diverted to provide assistance.

Effectively executing the rescue operation, the CMA CGM URAL safely transferred the survivors on board. The vessel made a brief stop in Bermuda to disembark the two American nationals on Friday, December 15th. The ship arrived at the pilot station for St. George’s and handed over the survivors to the local pilot boat, “St. David,” which transported the sailors to Ordnance Island. Subsequently, the Ural resumed its journey and is now bound for the Strait of Gibraltar.
