Luxembourg-owned dredger detained in Mexico, running short of supplies

Mexican authorities detained Luxembourg-owned and operated dredger ZHENG HE on Oct 27 in Tampico, under the allegation that the ship was involved in some kind of illegal “commercial activities”, i.e. carrying goods while not properly authorized. Owner denies allegation and says the ship arrived in Mexican waters for dredging works only. The ship’s under embargo order and as such, can’t receive supplies to maintain both ship and crew. Owner is threatening Mexican authorities with suit he is going to file with International Court of Justice. 36 crew includes Dutch, Croatian, Belgian, Filipino, Indonesian, Indian and Mexican nationalities.
