The “Mediterranean Research 1” ship, belonging to the Mediterranean Fisheries Research, Production and Training Institute Directorate of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, set out from Antalya to investigate the fish ecosystem in the territorial waters of Lebanon.

General Director of Agricultural Research and Policies (TAGEM) Metin Türker, in his speech at the ceremony held at Setur Marina, said that the ship will conduct research on aquaculture and fish population in Lebanese territorial waters within the scope of cooperation between the Lebanese Government and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). .

Stating that the ship has been carrying out research activities in Lebanon for 2 years, Türker noted that it was assigned the same task by FAO this year.

The ship will remain in Lebanon until September 15

Stating that the ship will be in Lebanon after a 2-day trip and will stay in Lebanon until October 15, Türker said, “Our teams will report their work and notify FAO.” said.

Türker stated that the ship is planned to conduct scientific research in Saudi Arabia and Libya in the coming years.

Stating that Turkey has increased above the world average in aquaculture hunting and cultivation, Türker said, “We are first in Europe in fish farming, we are the world leader in sea bass and sea bream production, and we are second in the world in trout production. Black Sea salmon is also making significant progress towards becoming a brand in the world.” .” made his assessment.

The ship, which is 32 meters long and 8 meters wide and has the equipment and technology to operate in international waters as a research and control ship, was sent off from Setur Marina with its crew of 10 people.
