65 sacks containing rice were caught in the net of fishermen who set out to sea to hunt in Mersin.

In Erdemli district, a net was cast approximately 2.5 miles offshore from a fishing boat that set out to sea last night to hunt.

Shortly after, the crew trying to pull the net saw that there were sacks in the net.

Mersin Fisheries Cooperatives Regional Union Vice President Yalçın Sakın said that they brought the sacks caught in the net to the shore with the help of another fishing boat.

Explaining that the sacks were brought to the shore with the help of a crane, Sakın said:

“We don’t know why the sacks containing rice were thrown into the sea. These sacks caused us a lot of trouble; two boats could not lift them. The crane mast of one of them fell down. The nets broke down and we brought rescuers to lower the sacks. The anchored ships here throw excess or rotting materials into the sea, which creates an environmental impact. “And it causes sea pollution. Let’s not pollute our seas.”
