Second Iranian-flagged ship hijacked - News2Sea

Somali pirates hijacked the second Iranian-flagged ship in a week.

It was reported that the second Iranian ship was hijacked by pirates off the coast of Somalia in the last week.

Somalia’s Kandala Regional President Ahmed Yusuf Khurshe stated in his statement to the press that an Iranian-flagged ship was attacked by pirates.

Khurshe said, “An Iranian fishing ship was hijacked by a group of pirates off the coast of Putland province, which includes Kandala.” he said.

Stating that the entire crew was foreign national, Khurshe did not give information about the number of the crew.

An Iranian-flagged ship with a crew of 16 people, consisting of Somalis and Iranians, was hijacked off the coast of Somalia’s Putland region on November 25.

The pirates demanded a ransom of 400 thousand dollars for the release of the crew.

While pirates in Somalia attacked cargo ships and kidnapped them for ransom until 2017, pirate attacks have decreased since then.
